This is a beautiful gumma kokeshi 幸 'Sachi' fortune, made by the famous kokeshi-artist Usaburo.
Kokeshi are wooden handmade artisanal dolls from Japan. The most prevalent theory is that they appeared during the Tempo period (1830 - 1843) in the mountainous Tohoku region. Initially, they were intended as toys for the children. Later they became popular souvenirs and real decorative items, for some even collector items.
