Ancient Russian icon "Christ Pantokrator" from the second half of the 19th . century. Hand-painted with egg tempera colours on a wooden panel with chalk background. Typical method of icon production in the 18th and 19th century in tsarist Russia. Relatively detailed painting. Perfectly matched colour contrasts and accomplished shading. The painting has craquelure. Very saturated and striking colour scheme. The icon was probably written in southern Russia around 1890 in one of the age-related workshops. This is an old-faith icon. The saint is labelled. The inscriptions are clearly legible. The icon is in good condition with typical age-related traces of wear in the form of scratches, paint flaking, bumps (see photos). Stable and solid wooden board. The wooden board is curved. Both transverse wooden laths are present on the back. These were probably installed retrospectively.
A “must-have” for connoisseurs and collectors as well as enthusiasts of Russian icon painting.
All details are clearly visible in the photos. The photos are part of the description.
