Abbas, whose full name was Abbas Attar Écouter, was born on 29th March 1944 in Khash, in the Iranian Balochestan province and died on 25th April 2018 in Paris. He was a Franco-Iranian photographer.

Religion, cumbersome roots for these young female students in Jakarta, at the time of prayer, women who wore a white jilbab, the local version of the hijab. Abbas asked one of them, if it wasn’t too hot under her synthetic veil. A man answered in her place, "Not as hot as in hell".
“Islam has always evoked the grey and dusty tones of the highlands, the ochres of sand dunes and steppes, suddenly revived by the green of an oasis. A religion of deserts, blue skies and winds sweeping everything in their path. In Indonesia, I discovered a religion of water, forests and coconut trees, punctuated by the gentle geometry of the rice fields. Islam is infused with Buddhism, Hinduism and pagan tradition.” Abbas
