This is one of the 6 engravings from this series made by Hendrick Goltzius, the others were engraved by Philips Galle.

After a painting/drawing of Jan Stradanus, Jan van der Straet (1523-1605).
Jan van der Straet worked in Italy, and he inspired and was inspired by Antonio Tempesta.

Engraving made by a young Hendrick Goltzius (1558-1607) in 1576-1583. At the age of 18-20 he engraved the same quality as Philips Galle.
Hendrick Goltzius was one of the leading Dutch golden age painters and engravers. He had his typical mannerist style. His engravings were used as example for many other painters.

Published by Philips Galle (1537-1612) in 1576-1583.
Philips Galle was a Flemish engraver and publisher in Antwerp/ Haarlem. He worked for Hiëronymus Cock and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
