Born on April 3, 1926 in Stuttgart, died in 1995 in Algeciras/Spain. He has lived and worked in Stuttgart and Algeciras.
Helmut Siesser is the first of the two children of Robert Siesser, administrator and deputy councillor, and Hedwig Siesser, born Zeeb in Stuttgart into a middle-class Stuttgart family. After a happy childhood and adolescence, he was enlisted after the baccalaureate in 1944 and sent to the Western Front in France. During the winter of 1944/45, he was injured and suffered from severe frostbite.
It was immediately after the war that he found his vocation as a painter. From 1946 to 1950, he attended the Stuttgart Academy of Fine Arts. He was a pupil of teachers Willi Baumeister and Gerhard Gollwitzer, who gave him decisive artistic impulses.
He managed to break through with incomparable style and through long trips of paintings on the motif he undertook in his camper van in Europe and North Africa. The result is beautiful landscape compositions with an impressionist touch.
In 1951, he settled in Algeciras, a charming little port town on the Strait of Gibraltar between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, which became his second home. With his painting and his way of life, he gained the sympathy and recognition of the city of Algeciras - known to all as Helmut "El Pintor Alemán" - The German Painter.
For years, he played an active role in the cultural life of the city: more than 20 individual exhibitions, various wall layouts and a fountain donated to the city evokes his memory. Shortly after his death, a street bearing his name, Calle Helmut Siesser, was inaugurated.
Alternating with Algeciras, Helmut Siesser travelled to Stuttgart most of the time during the summer months, where he had individual exhibitions.

A rare opportunity to acquire a beautiful oil on canvas from this great German artist. This work recalls the Cubism of Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, but also the colourful flashes of Juan Gris or Joan Miro!
The latest photos show the artist during his exhibitions in New York and his retrospective in Algeciras.
As a reminder - This is an original work on panel that can have defects: small folds, small ink stains... The works we sell are intended to be framed, and the pictures of illustrations with frames represent an overview of the result. Image rights are the property of the artist. Happy bidding to all!
