CUEUR DE PHILOSOPHIE (le), translaté de latin en françois à la requeste de Philippe Le Bel, roy de France, nouvellement imprimé à Paris pour François Regnault, libraire juré de Luniversité. (In the end: was completed to print the second jour d’octobre 1529). Quarto, full vellum tinted pink of the time and origin (worn binding., small snags at the corners and headdresses, slightly dislocated), 6 ff. lim. and 118 ff. (4 ff. are missing: 31 to 34, probably forgotten as a result of the neglect of the binder), 60 woods including several geometric or esoteric, some representing the left hand, but also figs. tracing naïve and charming subjects. Num. drop caps on a grainy background. The Elephant's mark on the title. Illustrated from the xvie, curious and extremely rare in beautiful Gothic character. (Graesse, II, p. 306) (Brunet).
This work of the 19th century was one of the most spiritual of its time. This encyclopedia of the late Middle Ages is said to have been composed by Jehan Bonnet. The Maine Cross attributes the ill-fitting translation to Symon Greban, who flourished in the mid-10th century and therefore cannot have done so.
at the request of Philippe Le Bel, who died in 1314. He was at most the reviewer. It is a vast cosmogony that, beginning with a dialogue between Tymeo (remembrance of Plato?) and Placides, ends with observations concerning astrology, astronomy and chiromancy.
