Sebastião Salgado travels the world, documenting the poor and the powerless, as well as the greatness of nature, in analogue black and white photographs that are both highly formal and intrepid documentary. Influenced by his training as an economist, and attuned to masters in documentary photography such as Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson, Salgado focuses on the negative results of globalization. As he explains, "Each of my stories is about globalization and economic liberalization: an example of the human condition on the planet today." That condition is one of danger to those at the bottom of the world economy.
