Score: 92/94 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (170), April 2007This property has made some brilliant wines in recent vintages, including a monumental 2005 and super-delicious 2004. Another stunning offering, the 2006 possesses sweet cherry and cassis notes intermixed with spring flowers, underbrush, and licorice. Medium-bodied and beautifully concentrated with soft acids as well as sweet tannin, the overall impression is one of opulence and plushness, atypical characteristics for a 2006. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025.
WINESPECTATOR / JAMES SUCKLING (92)
Complex aromas of truffle, blackberry and flowers follow through to a full body, with supersilky tannins and a long, polished, caressing finish. Superrefined and pretty. Needs plenty of time in the bottle to come around.
Since Jean-Luc Zuger became owner (he succeeded his father) in 1993, this cru has clearly improved enormously in terms of quality. The vineyard of 23.5 ha is partly located against that of the great Ch. Margaux. During a comparative tasting in a wine club of all Margaux wines from 2006, Ch. Malescot St. Exupéry is second after Ch. Palmer. Today the quality of this wine reaches the level of a Second Grand Cru Classé for me.
Made from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
Complex, subtle and refined nose with ripe fruit, mocha and vanilla.
Very elegant, balanced and harmonious on the palate.
A powerful, long, finish with ripe tannins. Class!
I am the first owner of this beautiful wine. This wine has been stored in my air-conditioned wine celIar from delivery in 2009.
