Wine was produced from the outstanding vintage of 1970 in Rioja. Very old grapes selected from the surroundings of the winery in Elciego village, La Rioja Alvesa (Basque Country Rioja). Wine fermented and matured in a big wooden vat from the founding time of the winery, 1858. Aged for 5 to 6 years in old barrels and racked periodically using the traditional 19th century Riojan cask-to-cask. Hand bottling, directly from the cask, bottle a bottle. Not filtered.
Bottles remained stored in the old cellar of the winery, known as "El Cementerio", the Cemetery, until 2003.
98/100 Vinosclasicos: "Shocking, elegant with high acidity. We are facing a historic Riscal. The tannins are pure silk, round, with a high-quality palate, finely spiced. Tasty, long, permanent. So surprise for its excellent condition. With many years of life ahead. One of the great Riojas of 1970. Essential!".
