The technically revolutionary vehicles were, among other things, characterised
by the first successfully
used automatic transmissions (2D 1966), huge
rear wings (2E, 1966 and 2F, 1967) as well as the first
“Vacuum Cleaner Race Car” (2J, 1970).
In this respect, they were pioneers of numerous other
constructions. The Formula 1 adopted the wing one
year later; and with the Brabham BT46B,
Brabham copied the “Vacuum Cleaner”.
The Chaparral models were named according to their construction years:
2 (1963), 2C (1965), 2D (1966), 2E (1966), 2F (1967),
2G (1968), 2H (1969) and 2J (1970). The Chaparral prototypes
won some races in the United States or
drove the fastest lap times. They were powered
by Chevrolet 8-cylinder engines with two valves and V suction.
The type 2J from 1970 was a technical highlight, as it
had an additional 2-stroke engine and side skirts.
This IAO engine for snowmobiles drove two 17-inch ventilators with a
constant rotational speed of 5000 rpm, that sucked air under
the car increased the pressure
under this provision. The additional specified pressure was 900 pounds
(4 kN), but the 2J did not achieve this.
It can drive, but it is a matter of haggling when it comes to the question: how often?
