A lovely work by Jean de Gorter, a Dutch physician who began studying surgery with a practitioner in his native city, and who served as physician to the Russian empress Elisabeth in St. Petersburg. There are numerous writings by Gorter.
"Jean de Gorter is one of the most learned physicians of our time, one of the most famous disciples of Boerhaave, honoured by the esteem of his master. He is a worthy commentator on Hippocrates. Brunet II, Manuel du libraire et de l'amteur de livres, 1671 - Graesse III, Trésor de livres rares et précieux, p. 120 (citing an edition of 1755).
