Letter signed (autograph signature) to Eugene de Beauharnais, 8th January 1809
Very interesting, Intimate and scarce letter from Napoleon to his stepson Eugene de Beauharnais, Congratulating him for the birth of his child (with Auguste Amélie of Bavaria, his wife), who was to be Napoleon's granddaughter :
"My son, Bataglia is just coming and informs me that Auguste [Eugene's wife] has given us a princess. Please send her my compliments. I hope that next time she will give us a boy.
Valladolid, 8th January 1809
Eugene, who was Josephine's son, and Napoleon's adoptive son, married to Auguste Amelie of Bavaria in 1806. She became vice-queen of Italy from 1806 to 1814 when Napoleon lost Italy. She gave birth to 6 children. The one who is mentioned in this letter is Eugenie de Beauharnais, who was born in December 1808, some days before this letter.
Intimate letters from Napoleon are very scarce.
