Zeer Goed - Geweerloop - Niet gedeactiveerd

Extremely rare Allen & Wheelock Center Hammer Army in caliber .44.
Most published arms historians estimate that only about 700-750 guns were made, out of wich 536 were purchased by the Federal government in 1861, nearly all those guns were subsequently issued to the 2nd & 3rd Michigan Volunteer Cavalry regiments. But since these revolvers were purchased on the open market, they were never marked with any US military markings.
The Center Hammer Army was made in three different variants. This is a first version from 1861 with the percussion nipples screwed into the cylinder from the inside of the chambers, something that made them really tricky to replace. This one was probably put away and forgotten when the nipples were too worn to fit the percussion caps.
The matching serial number on all parts is 170, and the bore is in excellent condition. Only a small number of this revolver remains - this is an extremely rare American Civil War relic.
