“Du Chaillu was a French-American zoologist and anthropologist, best-known for providing definitive scientific evidence of the existence of gorillas and for confirming the existence of an African pygmy tribe. These accomplishments brought Du Chaillu great fame, and he published numerous popular books and was a favourite on the lecture circuit during the mid-19th century. Du Chaillu's interests eventually shifted from Africa to Northern Europe, and the present book was the result of nearly nine years of extensive travel and research”.
