Antoninus of Florence (1st March 1389 – 2nd May 1459), born Antonio Pierozzi, was an Italian Dominican friar, venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. He was appointed Archbishop of Florence in 1446 by Pope Eugene IV. He died in that city in May 1459, at the age of 70.
His works include Summa sacrae theologiae and Chronica.
It’s a very rare specimen that contains the famous CHRONICON or SUMMA HISTORIAE, the history of the world until 1459 written by St. Antoninus of Florence in the 15th century. The book contains the third and final part of the work from 1313 to 1459.
Chronicon shows effort and systematic arrangement, making it a very estimable historical work. In addition, Chronicón is full of anecdotes and fabulous legends that make it very enjoyable to read.
Rare original binding in double-face leather from the 16th century. Spine restored in the 17th century. Some signs of wear and losses. (See photos.)
