Johan Georg ZIMMERMANN (1728-1795) was a Swiss Protestant physician, member of the City Council (Council of Thirty) and the Grand Council of Brugg (Council of Twelve), co-founder of the Swiss Society (1761), personal physician to King George III of England and Aulic Councillor in Hanover (1768)
A highly sought-after practitioner, he was called in 1786 to cure king Frederick II who was dying.
He practised a medicine that took into account emotions and their influence on the illness. A member of several European academies, he corresponded with many personalities of the Enlightenment."

12mo volume, [2]-xiviij-406 pp, full marbled leather binding, adorned ribbed spine, title label in red leather,
gilded bands on the cover ends, red edges.
Very good condition (covers, corners, joints, head/tailcaps). Very fresh interior without any foxing.

Many passages in this book are on food and drink.
First major monograph published on dysentery.

In the first part, the author presents the cases he has witnessed and details its curative method.

The second part is devoted to remarks and observations on how to recognise and heal the various types of dysentery.

Very nice copy of the first French edition (rare in such condition)
