Pierre Georges Boutigny (born on 30 October 1806 in Pontoise), settled in Paris in 1828 and worked there
until 1865. His bindings are easily recognisable and are commonly embellished on the cover
with characteristic rocaille motifs. Mr Boutigny distinguished himself through a speciality that he
introduced to French bookbinding. It was he who introduced the "keepsake" to France. He was
already known as a skilled bookbinder since 1832, when he came up with the idea of proving that one
could successfully compete with English bookbinders in the execution of
keepsakes. In “Les artisans illustres” by Foucaud.
