Born in San Francisco and raised in Kochi, Japan's world-renowned photographer Yasuhiro Ishimoto studied photography at the New Bauhaus in Chicago under Harry Callaghan and Aaron Siskind. Yasuhiro Ishimoto's first book, Someday Somewhere, is a collection of his photographs, captured with a penetrating gaze, refined sensibility, calculated composition and a superb sense of form. Layout and binding by Ryuichi Yamashiro. The fact that such a work, thoroughly devoid of Japanese sentiment, was published in Japan in the 1950s is astonishing. This is an excellent work that condenses the philosophy of Yasuhiro Ishimoto: ‘The freedom to be where you are on any given day is the condition of the photographer’.
