Een portret waarin het lange haar symbool staat voor vitaliteit en continuïteit, terwijl het lichaam de sporen van tijd en kwetsbaarheid draagt. Het schilderij verbeeldt de dubbelheid van ouder worden: van binnen dezelfde kracht en energie voelen, terwijl het uiterlijk langzaam verandert.
