Ingo Maurer - Lampe - Wo-Tum-Bu 3 - Rispapir - rispapirlampe

The Wo-Tum-Bu table lamp, designed by the renowned German lighting designer Ingo Maurer, draws inspiration from the aesthetic philosophy and sculptural use of light associated with Isamu Noguchi. Centered around the use of paper as its primary medium, the design explores the relationship between light and material in an experimental and poetic way, resulting in a lighting object that is both sculptural and atmospheric. The shade is made of Japanese washi paper, crafted using a unique hand-dyeing process developed by Dagmar Mombach. It is gently formed into a cocoon-like organic shape, allowing light to softly radiate from within. The resulting illumination creates a calm and refined ambiance, reflecting a subtle and contemplative Eastern aesthetic. The series can also be arranged in varying sizes to create a rhythmic spatial composition, echoing the principles of Japanese minimalism. This particular piece dates from the early 1990s. Due to the nature of the handmade washi paper and the passage of time, the shade shows natural tonal variations, minor spotting, creasing, and signs of age, all of which contribute to its material character and authenticity (see in imagens).. The plug has been replaced over time. Overall, the lamp remains in good condition and would appeal to collectors with an appreciation for design history and the beauty of natural materials.
