William Dixon, London – Chronometer Maker to the Admiralty A fine and rare 18K gold fusee pocket watch London, circa 1830 No. 1569 The beautifully engraved 18-carat gold case, finely chased with floral scrolls and initials “M.H.” to the back, hallmarked and stamped with London assay marks and maker’s stamps. The pendant marked “18” and bearing the London town mark. The dial is richly engine-turned and decorated with a central floral bouquet, applied Roman numerals in gold, and an ornate border set with small white stones (possibly rose-cut diamonds or glass pastes). Slim blued steel hands. The gilt full-plate fusee and chain movement signed “Wm. Dixon, Chronometer Maker to the Admiralty, 10 Lothbury, London, No.1569”, with finely engraved balance cock and blue screws, index for Fast/Slow regulation, and maintaining power. Diameter: 44 mm Weight: 68 grams (total) Case material: 18K gold Movement: Key-wound fusee escapement Condition: Excellent cosmetic condition; movement clean and appears complete; running condition untested. Notes: William Dixon was a highly regarded chronometer and watchmaker in early 19th-century London, officially listed as Chronometer Maker to the Admiralty. His workshop at 10 Lothbury supplied precision marine chronometers and fine pocket watches to the Royal Navy and private clients. The beautifully engraved 18-carat gold case, finely chased with floral scrolls and initials “M.H.” to the back, hallmarked and stamped with London assay marks and maker’s stamps. The pendant marked “18” and bearing the London town mark.
