Minimalist hand-made, smoothly polished figurines made from 1 piece of natural stone.
These Kisii stone figurines are made by hand in Africa, making each figurine unique in shape and colour.
The Kisii stone gets its name from the town of Kisii in the south-west of Kenya, where it is mined.
The Kenyans call it Tabaka stone as the real site of the Kisii stone village is Tabaka.
Both men and women are involved in making the figurines. The men work the stones to the rough final shape, the women then polish the figurines by treating them with water and sand (as an abrasive). Finally, the figurine is lubricated with oil to do justice to the specific colour of the Kisii stone.
These figurines are in good condition without chips, cracks or splits. The stripe you see on the back of the widest figurine and the brown spot in the tallest figurine is a natural phenomenon (as with marble).
Tallest figurine: 22 cm.
Smallest figurine: 16 cm.
Total weight: 2.700 kg
