Antique marble fireplace, 19th century, size: 180 x 110 x 48 cm.
It was found and removed during a renovation of an old house in Veneto, in Verona. The fireplace features a refined, slender and elongated design, enlivened by the two beautiful curly spirals that mark the centre of the lintel. Two small rounded shelves connect the lintel to the two piers marked by a reserve engraved in the stone. Profiled top outline with band, strip and rod.
The history of the fireplace, an element of domestic architecture very present in the Veneto region, began to be refined from the Renaissance onwards, when these stone and marble elements, often designed by important architects, began to be placed against the wall. The size of these elements became smaller and even more sophisticated in elegance and grace in the 19th century, when the whole interior of the house became comfortable and people-oriented. In fact, the fireplace offered here is influenced by the aesthetic demands of the mid-19th century.
The vintage fireplace has evolved in this century into an element that is not only useful, but also a piece of furniture, which is why it is possible to buy it today for aesthetic and not necessarily functional reasons.
