A fine Roman terracotta oil lamp featuring an elongated oval body with a circular discus, decorated with a Kantharos/ Amphora vase at the centre, flanked on either side by two small filling holes. The shoulders of the lamp are decorated on both sides with a series of circled dots presenting the Evil Eye symbol to protect from evil and pyramid shaped concentric figures. At the top of the lamp there is a solid handle which is flattened at both sides. The lamp sits on a ringed foot.
A well-preserved example of Roman domestic lighting, combining utility with elegant decorative design.
± 135,6 x 78,8 mm
Condition: very good condition, intact. Sharp depiction of the Kantharos. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
