A kōgō is a small container with a lid for storing incense. It is a type of tea ceremony utensil and also a type of Buddhist altar implement.
Kaga maki-e加賀蒔絵 is a lacquer craft that developed in the Kaga domain, and is a technique of painting patterns on lacquer with gold and silver powder. Master craftsmen such as Igarashi Doho from Kyoto and Shimizu Kyubei from Edo were invited to teach the technique, and it is characterized by gorgeous, three-dimensional expressions that combine the elegant culture of the imperial court and the culture of the samurai. It is used on a wide variety of items, including tea ceremony utensils, interior furnishings, and weapons.
