With the Haitōrei Edict of 1876, which forbade the samurai from wearing swords, the metal masters of the Edo period transformed their craft. They turned to creating decorative art bronzes, refining alloys and patinas of extraordinary beauty.
1876年的海刀令（Haitōrei Edict），禁止武士佩剑，江户时期的金属匠人便改造他们的技艺，转而创作装饰性工艺青铜器，研制出极具美感的合金与包浆。
