Up for auction is a legendary piece of computing history: the original Canon Pocketronic. Released in late 1970 / early 1971, this model is famous for being the world's very first handheld, battery-powered electronic printing calculator. ​Developed in collaboration with Texas Instruments (based on their famous "Cal-Tech" prototype), the Pocketronic did not have a traditional display screen. Instead, it printed calculations directly onto a 1/4-inch thermal paper tape viewed through a magnifying window. At launch, this technological marvel cost an astonishing $395. ​Condition & Testing: ​Cosmetic Condition: Very Good. The plastic housing has no cracks or major damage. The keys are intact, and the text is crisp. Remarkably, the original "How to Use" instruction sticker on the back is fully intact and legible (these are very frequently rubbed off from use). ​Functionality: UNTESTED. This unit is missing the proprietary 16V Canon charger.
