Sumida River Boat Excursion Ukiyo-e (東都名所隅田川櫓下舟游) - Torii Kiyonaga (鳥居清長,1752-1815) - 日本 (没有保留价)

Title: Sumida River Boat Excursion Ukiyo-e (東都名所隅田川櫓下舟游) Artist: Torii Kiyonaga (鳥居清長,1752-1815) Technique: Woodblock Print Signature: Plate-Signed Paper Size: 26 × 38 cm (10.24 × 14.96 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) This ukiyo-e woodblock print was originally created by Torii Kiyonaga during Japan’s Edo period (江戸時代) in 1792 (Kansei 4). It was reissued in the 1910s–1920s. The composition captures the aquatic charm of the Edo era: a wooden boat carries two kimono-clad beauties (美人) and a chōnin (町人,urban commoner), sailing leisurely. The women’s kimonos feature elegant hues and intricate patterns, while the man’s attire reflects the typical style of townspeople. Details such as clogs (下駄) and an umbrella (傘) inside the boat, paired with riverbank architecture and rippling water scenery, depict a vivid, lifelike outing scene. Due to age, the paper shows slight oxidation-induced yellowing, minor edge wear, and creases. However, the image remains intact, the colors are still vibrant, and the overall preservation condition is good. Notes Torii Kiyonaga was a prominent ukiyo-e artist in the mid-to-late Edo period of Japan: 4th head of the Torii School (succeeded in 1787), son of the owner of Shiroko-ya Bookstore in Edo, and a disciple of Torii Kiyomitsu in his early years; his early works followed the styles of Kiyomitsu and Suzuki Harunobu, later influenced by Isoda Koryūsai, he established his unique genre painting style during the Tenmei era; his "Kiyonaga Beauties" feature balanced and elegant figures, often set against natural landscapes or elegant interiors with harmonious colors; he pioneered the "tsuzuki-mono" (giant assembled composition) format, with representative nishiki-e (polychrome woodblock prints) including Tōsei Seiro Bijin Zukushi and Fūzoku Azuma no Nishiki; later, he focused on theater billboard paintings and reduced nishiki-e creation; his disciples included Torii Kiyomine, and he influenced artists such as Katsukawa Shunchō. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
