Mosquito Net with Two Beauties (蚊帳二美人) was painted in 1802 (Kyōwa 2), while Azuma and Gorō in Late Snow (あづま与五郎残雪) dates back to 1798 (Kansei 10). Both prints were reissued as reproductions between the 1960s and 1970s, supervised by Tadao Takamizawa (高見澤忠雄). 1. Mosquito Net with Two Beauties (蚊帳二美人)It depicts the maids’ poetic inner world: the soft green of the mosquito net contrasts vividly with the bright hues of their kimonos, evoking the serene atmosphere of a summer morning. 2. Azuma and Gorō in Late Snow (あづま与五郎残雪)Set on a snowfall morning, the scene captures young lovers whispering gently by the window. Through fluid lines and vibrant colors, the work masterfully conveys a profound sense of dramatic lyricism. Its theme is believed to be derived from the popular jōruri (浄瑠璃) storytelling tradition of the time. Both prints are accompanied by Japanese descriptive texts on their protective sheets. Due to the passage of time, the washi paper exhibits slight oxidation and yellowing, but the overall condition remains very good. - The picture is part of the description.
