Item Description Kutani Ware 九谷焼 Ice-Blue Yūri-Ginsai (Glaze-Concealed Silver Decoration) Vase / Ikebana Hanaire by Tachikichi 橘吉 A strikingly cool and contemporary Kutani porcelain flower vase (hanaire) finished in the celebrated "Yūri-ginsai" (釉裏銀彩) technique — silver leaf applied to the body and sealed beneath a translucent glaze, allowing the silver to glow softly through the surface. The vase has a full, ovoid body that narrows to a slender, flared neck, a classic flower-vase silhouette ideal for ikebana arrangements. Over the entire body, irregular silver-leaf fragments are laid in an abstract, almost crystalline composition, evoking drifting ice floes, cracked ice or fallen leaves captured beneath a sheet of frozen water. The glaze is a soft, cool ice-blue, and as the light shifts the silver passages move between matte pale-blue and a quiet metallic sheen — a signature effect of the Yūri-ginsai process. The neck and shoulder are finished in an unglazed pale surface that elegantly frames the decorated body. The base is marked "橘吉" (Tachikichi) in underglaze blue, the mark of the renowned Kyoto house Tachikichi (est. 1752), which commissions original works from leading Japanese kilns. This piece reflects the aesthetic lineage of modern Kutani Yūri-ginsai, a technique recognised as an Ishikawa Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property and brought to the international stage by masters such as Nakada Kazuo (designated a Living National Treasure in 2025). Its quietly luxurious, modern sensibility makes it equally at home as an ikebana vessel or as a display object in a contemporary interior. No original box. Size Height: 21 cm Diameter: 16.6 cm Weight 1,052 g Condition Excellent condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations; the glaze and silver-leaf decoration are pristine. Artist Profile Tachikichi 橘吉 Tachikichi is a historic Kyoto-based ceramics house founded in 1752 (Hōreki 2) as "Tachibanaya Kichibee," renamed "Tachikichi" in 1894. For over two and a half centuries it has commissioned original pieces from Japan's leading kilns and artists, a practice it pioneered under the term "sōsaku tōki" (created ceramics). Pieces bearing the Tachikichi mark are recognised for their exacting quality and are valued by collectors of modern Japanese ceramics. This vase is executed in the Kutani Yūri-ginsai tradition, a technique in which cut silver leaf is applied to the bisque body and sealed beneath a transparent glaze during firing, producing a soft, enduring silver luminescence. The technique was designated an Ishikawa Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property, and its leading exponent Nakada Kazuo 中田一於 (b.1949) was designated a Living National Treasure (Important Intangible Cultural Property holder) in 2025. NOTICE: The photos may show flowers, plants, pedestals, etc. as examples of decorations and interior design for illustrative purposes, but please note that these are not included in the product. The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by DHL , FedEx or Japan Post depend on the situation. It takes about 10 days to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.
