Artist Profile
山崎光洋 Yamazaki Koyo II (1962–) was born on Gojo-zaka, Kyoto's historic ceramics street, as the eldest son of Yamazaki Akira (first-generation Koyo). After graduating from Osaka University of Arts (sculpture), he studied under Nihon Geijutsu-in member Kawai Seitoku. He made his debut in 1989, winning simultaneous acceptance at the Nihon Shin-Kogei Exhibition, the Nitten, and the Kyoten. He became a full member of the Kyoto Kogei Bijutsu-ka Kyokai in 1992 and has served as a juror for the Nihon Shin-Kogei Exhibition. In 2001 he represented Kyoto craft at the Edinburgh City Art Centre. The Koyo-gama kiln, founded in the Meiji era, is renowned for brilliantly glazed work.
