作品标题:日本 高岡銅器 Takaoka Bronze 花入れ Vase — 群青 Midnight Blue, 金彩 Gold Gilding & 苔緑 Moss-Green Patina
Japanese Takaoka Bronze Flower Vase — Midnight Blue, Gold Gilding & Green Mottled Glaze
This elegant pear-shaped vase (hanaire) is a masterwork of Takaoka Copperware (高岡銅器), showcasing one of the tradition's most sophisticated surface finishing techniques. The deep navy-black ground shimmers with scattered gold gilding (kinzai), while organic clusters of moss-green patina drift across the surface like lichen on ancient stone. Under shifting light, the piece transforms — revealing cobalt blue, warm gold, and deep black in turn, making it a living, ever-changing object of contemplation.
Takaoka Copperware, originating in Toyama Prefecture over 400 years ago and designated as a Japanese National Traditional Craft in 1975, is celebrated worldwide for its mastery of alloy casting and multi-layered patination. This vase exemplifies that legacy: the luminous color complexity is achieved through painstaking hand-applied chemical patination and gilding by skilled craftsmen — a process that cannot be replicated mechanically.
The graceful silhouette — a swelling teardrop body rising to a slender neck with a gently flared rim — is a classical Japanese flower vase form, equally suited to ikebana display or as a standalone decorative sculpture.
