Collection of Antique Lace – 19th to Early 20th Century – Brussels, Irish, Bobbin, Needle Lace & More
A refined and varied collection of authentic antique lace, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, preserved in warm tones of cream, ivory, and ecru. This lot comprises numerous lace trims, insertions, borders, appliqués and decorative fragments, perfect for collectors, conservators, textile historians, and period costume restorers.
Notable Lace Types Included:
- Brussels Lace – identifiable by its delicate filet or bobbin-made motifs joined to a fine machine or handmade net ground. Characteristic floral sprays and scrolling leaves appear in several pieces.
- Irish Lace (Irish Crochet) – rich, textured motifs including raised flowers and circular medallions worked in fine cotton thread, typical of Irish hand-crochet from the late Victorian/Edwardian period.
- Bobbin Lace (Torchon & Finer Florals) – star motifs, geometric grounds, scalloped edges, and narrow trims typical of continental handwork.
- Needle Lace / Needle-run Tulle – fine mesh net embroidered with floral and foliate designs, including borders and wider decorative fragments.
- Machine Lace of the Edwardian Period – soft tulle with applied or integrated floral motifs, ideal for costume restoration.
- Appliqués – including a charming butterfly motif and triangular lace insertions.
As expected from antique textiles, there is age patina, occasional small breaks, minor discolouration, and light wear. These signs confirm the authenticity and age of the laces. Many pieces remain strong and suitable for sewing, display, or upcycling.
Mixed widths and lengths (as pictured). A generous and diverse lot. This is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a rich assortment of antique lace, including desirable Brussels and Irish crochet examples, representing a wide range of European lace-making traditions from the Victorian to Edwardian eras.
Carefully packaged and shipped with tracking.
