- Keith Haring (1958–1990) was an American artist whose bold, graphic visual language became one of the most iconic signatures of late 20th-century art. Emerging from New York’s subway scene in the early 1980s, Haring developed a distinctive style based on thick black outlines, simplified human figures, radiant lines, and vibrant blocks of color. His work carried strong social themes unity, activism, love, freedom, and accessibility making art a democratic tool for communication.

Haring collaborated with major cultural figures of the era and exhibited worldwide, all while maintaining a public-art ethos. Despite his short career, he produced murals, sculptures, paintings, and countless limited-edition prints. Today, his works are highly sought after: original paintings can exceed €2–5 million, and authorized prints and posters frequently achieve several thousand euros at international auctions.

“Statue of Liberty” (1986) is a quintessential example of Haring’s joyful and energetic style. The piece shows the Statue of Liberty in bright shades of green and yellow, outlined in thick black lines against a pink background. At the bottom, three of Haring’s signature dancing figures lift their arms in celebration, radiating energy and optimism. The artwork reflects themes of freedom and collective hope, combining an American cultural icon with Haring’s universal language of simple forms and powerful colors.
