Gran Reserva 890 2005 was the only Spanish wine selected for the 'Top 10 Tasting' organized by Wine Spectator in October 2019 in New York. In the 'Top 10 Tasting', the prestigious Wine Spectator magazine evaluates the top ten wines from its annual 'Top 100' list, an internationally recognized ranking that placed Gran Reserva 890 2005 'Selección Especial' in fourth place. La Rioja Alta S.A. has been producing Gran Reserva 890 since 1890. It is the winery's flagship wine. This 2005 vintage (Excellent) is also one of the best of the 21st century. A unique wine made with Tempranillo (95%) and Mazuelo (2%) grapes from the winery's own vineyards in Briñas, Labastida, and Villalba; and Graciano (3%) from the Montecillo estate. The selected grape bunches were hand-harvested. After fermentation, the best batches were transferred to barrels where they aged for six years with ten traditional rackings. During this time, further selections were made, resulting in the final blend of only 199 barrels, which yielded 57,036 bottles. To preserve the aromatic components as much as possible, Gran Reserva 890 2005 has not been filtered. We do not ship to the Canary Islands or to countries outside the European Union.
