A Rare and Exquisite Sawankhalok Celadon-glazed Votive Fertility Figure of A Woman Holding A Bird

This is a hand-crafted, part celadon-glazed votive fertility figurine from 14th or 15th century. The figure is a female holding a bird, bare breasted, with hair in a bun on top of her head, sitting cross-legged. It is seated in the traditional posture: both legs are bent, with the right foot pointing backwards and the left foot touching right thigh. The hair is in the traditional top knot. The figures' heads were removed to guarantee fertility.

Collection of the Portland Art Museum, Portland, accession no. ST1997.14.13, IND 3012
Acquired from an well-known auction house, USA

Condition:
Some abrasion caused by age. The neck was broken and then reinforced. Right foot partially missing.
