When he was eight years old, Jan discovered the very special albums his father kept safely tucked away. He was amazed to find out how valuable his father’s wonderful stamp collection was, but even more inspired by the stories and history behind each stamp. It was only a few years later that he began collecting himself, focusing on stamps from Siam and Thailand. Not too long after that, Jan had the idea of setting up a stall at flea markets in the Netherlands. The plan being to sell the doubles from his and his father’s collections, along with other stamps and postcards that came from Dutch colonies or other fascinating locations. Eventually, this little business grew into UrsemStamps, a successful father and son enterprise trading stamps across the Netherlands, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Jan joined the Catawiki team in July 2020 and is excited to share his specialist knowledge of stamps from Swiss and Dutch colonies, the Netherlands and Asia, and to continue learning as much as possible from other philatists.
