When your order crosses international borders, customs authorities may ask for certain documents to confirm its value and contents.
Commercial invoice
For shipments entering the EU from outside, customs authorities usually require a commercial invoice. This document helps them calculate the customs fee, usually a percentage of the order value.
The seller is responsible for preparing this invoice, which may differ from a standard VAT invoice. The required information can vary by country but should always include:
- the seller’s and buyer’s names
- a description, size, and weight of the object(s)
- the number of objects (if more than one)
- the shipping method
- the value of the order
If customs requires this document, ask the seller directly for a copy. You can also check your Catawiki receipts for order details.
Identification number
In some regions — such as the Canary Islands or Switzerland — customs authorities may also ask for your ID number to process the import.
If you’re asked to provide your identification number, share it only through official customs or shipping channels to avoid delays in delivery.
