Seller's Story

PINTÉR GALLERY The Pintér Gallery and Auction House has been a significant part of the Hungarian art market for thirty years. Gallery owner Péter Pintér began dealing with antique furniture in the early 1990s. Over the years, the family business has grown both in terms of space and the range of items it offers, making it a uniquely large gallery in the context of Eastern and Central Europe. The uniqueness of the nearly 2000 square meter downtown shop lies in its maze-like basement spaces and modern areas, as well as the contrast between the classic, 20th-century modern, and contemporary artworks. It’s no coincidence that the film industry has also taken notice of the unique and winding world of the shop on Falk Miksa Street: it has appeared as a location in several films, and prestigious productions often borrow unique furniture and props from the gallery. The foundation of the Pintér Gallery and Auction House’s activities consists of the consignment and auction of classic, modern, and contemporary paintings and sculptures, Zsolnay porcelain, and furniture, as well as jewelry, both on the domestic and international levels. In recent years, there has been an increasing emphasis on selling designer furniture from 20th-century European and Hungarian designers, as well as showcasing contemporary visual artists through exhibitions and art fairs. Péter Pintér and his team held their first auction in 2008 and have since regularly organized live, hybrid, and online auctions. They have also conducted numerous successful charity auctions in collaboration with various foundations. In addition to organizing events in Budapest, the gallery also pays special attention to its intensive presence on the shores of Lake Balaton, where they are active year after year with prestigious art selections, live auctions, and fairs. Similarly, the “Contemporary Balaton” art exhibition and art fair is a recurring and beloved program for visitors to Badacsony. The annual “Balaton, Summer, Love” themed summer auction held at the Vaszary Gallery in Balatonfüred is the yearly highlight in the auction house’s calendar, and an awaited cultural highlight for vacationists.
