The cell is dead.  Important scratches on one of the cap articulations.  Could break one day or another.  The device is clearly more dated than expected and the general situation is quite poor. 

I knew you'd say that. I consider it to be in very good condition; it's been rarely used, as I have three turntables. I've documented the condition in the photos. You bought a 40-year-old turntable, so what was it supposed to be like?
