________
La Bottega dei Mascareri is located in Venice: it consists in two workshops that manufacture paper-mache masks. La Bottega dei Mascareri has worked since 19 October 1984 and renews the craftsman traditions of ancient Venetian mask makers, who had gathered in 1436. Since its opening, La Bottega dei Mascareri has been directed by Sergio and Massimo Boldrin, who combine their painting skills to the experience in manufacturing a wide range of masks. In La Bottega dei Mascareri you can find the famous masks of Commedia dell’Arte (brought to its greatest splendour by Carlo Goldoni in the 18th century), such as Harlequin, Pantaloon and Zanni. Moreover, you can find masks from the Venetian tradition such as the Baùta and Moretta, which are extensively displayed in the Bottega dei Mascareri. Masks in the shape of the Sun and the Moon, decorated with golden leaf, goblins and jesters are also produced in the workshops. Sergio and Massimo Boldrin were the first artisans in Venice to paint masks with the decorations from Tiepolo’s works. Some masks created in the Bottega are manufactured for the production of famous films, such as “Eyes Wide Shut” (1999) by Stanley Kubrick and “Eternal” (2004) by Wilhelm Liebenberg.
