NWA 869. Célèbre météorite chondrite - 35.6 g
NWA 869 is one of the most famous meteorites. It is thought that by mass, it is the largest chondritic meteorite in the world with over 2 tons of recognized material. However, systematic data has not been obtained to prove it.
Chondrites are called so because they have chondrules, tiny spheres that are considered the first solid material of the Solar System. They also have tiny but visible particles of iron.
When cut, NWA 869's texture is heterogeneous as it is classified as an L3-6 chondrite. In the same piece, amazing chondrules can be seen (in the type 3 parts) with brecciated areas.
This specimen was found in the Saharan desert of Argelia and bought to a dealer on November 18th, 2018 in Morocco.
Weight is 35,6 grams.
