Flamed bakelite (Philite) "Pancake" speaker 46 cm diameter “Pancake” speaker 46 cm diameter from 1928! Design is in the style of the ‘New Objectivity’. The designer is Ir. Louis Christiaan Kalff. The used Philite is colourfully flamed in some editions with some gold here and there. The base is in cast iron. The Philips bowl speaker (nicknamed “the Pancake”) was introduced in the year 1928. The back is covered with black cloth and stretched over a metal grid. The bakelite is fully intact and undamaged. The bowl speaker is still sealed and this is getting rare. Each one is unique, the variation in the material arises because the raw materials for the Philite scales were mixed by hand. The speaker was delivered with a connecting plug switch with 3 positions. The purpose of this is to be able to control the intelligibility of the spoken word or the timbre of the music by switching. Original cord with original 3-way plug and speaker works.
