His crib was in the ‘Oude Westen’ of Rotterdam, a typical working-class neighbourhood, where he, as he says himself, grew up between the pubs and the ladies of the night. In those days he already loved drawing and would sit for hours at the kitchen table. Today Bert Notenboom is one of the best painters in The Netherlands.
