Bought from the private cellar of a Riojan retired wine distributor in June 2012. Very good storage conditions. Maximum filling level (HF). Fully mature and therefore drinking well now or cellar for 20-25 years. Only 7.300 bottles were produced. Gran Reserva 890 is the top of the range of La Rioja Alta winery, a wine to be cellared for years that was only released two times in the 50's (1955 and 1959). This very rare vintage 1955 was top rated "Excellent" by the Regulatory Board of La Rioja. This was the 4th time in the 20th century (1934-1948-1952-1955) and this period has been considered as the golden age of the traditional Rioja. Vinified and matured in a big wooden vat for 12 to 18 months, from the founding time of the winery (1890), and then aged in cask for 96 months, 8 years. Racked 14 times, once every 6 months in the first 7 years, using the traditional cask-to-cask Riojan method. Hand-bottled directly from the barrel, bottle a bottle, in 1966. Not filtered.
