Kokeshi are wooden handmade artisanal dolls from Japan. The most prevalent theory is that they appeared during the Tempo period (1830 - 1843) in the mountainous Tohoku region. Initially, they were intended as toys for the children. Later they became popular souvenirs and real decorative items, for some even collector items.
The heights of the kokeshi range between 13,5 cm and 34 cm. Some of the kokeshi have some parts missing like the red ribbons in their hair.
