Arvid Gutschow - See Sand Sonne - 1930

VERY IMPRESSIVE PHOTOBOOK by Arvid Gutschow in brilliant layout - with fantastic, breath-taking photos of abstract landscape photographs. A HIGHLY UNDERRATED MASTERPIECE of the "NEW GERMAN OBJECTIVITY" in the style of Albert Renger-Patzsch ("Die Welt ist schön"), Aenne Biermann ("Fototek"), Alfred Ehrhardt ("Das Watt") or Karl Theodor Gremmler ("Männer am Netz"). MY HIGHEST RECOMMANDATIONS. Welcome to the "GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS" auction by Ecki Heuser (5Uhr30.com, Cologne) - with more than 100 fantastic lots. IF YOU WIN MORE THAN 1 OF MY BOOKS IN THIS AUCTION, YOU WILL PAY ONLY 1 X SHIPPING COSTS - WORLDWIDE. Gebrüder Enoch Verlag, Hamburg. 1930. First edition, first printing. Original hardcover in linen. 225 x 280 mm. 75 pages. 75 photos. Photos: Arvid Gutschow. With an introduction by Hans Leip. Text in German. Condition: Inside fresh and flawless and much better than usual; clean with no marks and with no foxing (often foxed). Outside a bit foxed; no other flaws or defects. No jacket. Overall in fine condition. Very scarce and important German photobook from the "New German Objectivity" period - hard to find in any condition (with original dustjacket almost impossible). Raised in middle-class Blankenese in Hamburg, Arvid Gutschow (1900–1984) came into contact with the medium of photography at a young age. In 1929 he was one of the featured artists in the important New Photography exhibition, Film und Foto (Fifo), in Stuttgart. His images became known to a broad audience in 1930 with the publication of "See Sand Sonne" ("Sea Sand Sun"), considered one of the most influential books on style in abstract landscape photography. In this book featuring images of the sea, tidal flats, beach, and coastal plants, Gutschow explored natural structures and formations, such as the reflection of light on the surface of the water or wind blowing across beaches and dunes. The interplay of light and shadow and the divergence of natural forms and abstract imagination are masterfully presented in the autodidact’s photographs.
