Biography Yamaga Seika (1885-1981) Dyeing and weaving artist from Kyoto. His real name is Kenkichi. Studied under Nishida Chikusetsu and Kamisaka Sekka, and was active in a variety of craft fields. After dropping out of the Kyoto Municipal College of Painting, he founded the Shinkogeiin and Saikokukai. His many accomplishments include awards at the Universal Crafts Exposition in Paris and the Teiten exhibition, as well as activities at the Nitten exhibition and the Japan Art Academy. In particular, he contributed to the creation of hand-woven brocade and the three-dimensional expression of textiles, and was influential in the cultural development of Kyoto City. His achievements throughout his life were honored by being awarded the Order of Merit and being selected as a Person of Cultural Merit.
