n 1907, Sir Ernest Shackleton began his famous expedition to the Antarctic. He brought 25 cases of Mackinlay’s Rare Old Highland Malt Whisky with him for the journey. In 2010, several of these hundred-year-old bottles were found buried in the ice under the explorer’s hut, and were sent off to be analysed by Whyte & Mackay’s master blender Richard Paterson. Mackinlay’s Shackleton’s Journey Rare Old Highland Malt is a replica of this whisky and its original presentation, wrapped in straw. The blend includes a rare cask of Glen Mhor from 1980, as well as some heavily peated Dalmore and malts from the Glenfarclas, Mannochmore, Tamnavulin, Ben Nevis, Aultmore, Fettercairn, Pulteney and Jura distilleries.
