As an esteemed pupil first of the third Utagawa Toyokuni and subsequently of the second Utagawa Kunisada, Kunitoshi played a significant role in the late Meiji era's ukiyo-e tradition. This artwork is a single sheet from a triptych that vividly captures the essence of the Kanda Matsuri, a major festival centered around Kanda Myojin, showcasing a blend of the sacred and the festive that characterizes one of Tokyo's most significant events.
